wedding flowers 2009

A green wedding huh? Umm…too much work right? You already have way too much to do. Who wants to bother? Yeah I agreed at first. Then I realized something, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Anything you can do to help is something. So let’s try to start a trend!

So here are a few places to begin. Let’s start with the cake! YUMMMMY

What makes a cake organic? Do you grow it? Obviously not, but the ingredients used are grown whenever possible. The key is to use the finest quality ingredients available, and also locally grown (when you can). If you are planning on baking it yourself I would practice first. Bake one for the engagement party, or a birthday party. Or you can take the stress out of it and hire a bakery to make it for you. Find a local bakery that customizes in eco-friendly wedding cakes, like this bakery in New Hampshire. http://www.hippiechickbakery.com/

So, let’s talk about party favors. Stay far away from the usual favors and pick something that won’t harm the Earth. Choosing something biodegradable doesn’t mean it’s won’t be cute, take these for instance. Adorable little party poppers http://www.beau-coup.com/wedding-confetti-poppers.htm

How about centerpieces and flowers…?

The best thing to do would be to rent your centerpieces as opposed to buying them so they can be reused. Or you can reuse the flowers from the ceremony at the reception. Rent simple vases and fill them with the bridesmaid bouquets. Make sure to find a florist who grows their flowers locally so nothing has to be shipped.

When you find florists who grow locally you can almost guarantee that the use of pesticides will be kept to a minimum. After the wedding you can donate your flowers or send them home with your guests. ☼

That is just a few ideas I wanted to share. There are so many more ideas to make your wedding a little “greener”. So happy planning and just remember when you register for your gifts request NO GIFT WRAP, you are just going to throw it away anyways!

Wedding Photography with Flowers

Wedding Photography with Flowers

Ask the wedding photographers; they shall agree that bridal bouquets (or the floral arrangements in the wedding hall) are the prime focus in a wedding. But flowers do not shape the wedding; it’s the theme that does it. Wedding flowers, therefore, must be selected following the theme you are choosing for your wedding. Once that’s taken care of, the rest is a piece of cake.

  • Decoration with Flowers

Let’s take the extreme case; you are making the theme rotate around the selection of wedding flowers. Most people, in that case, choose daisies or roses, but when it’s regarding choosing the colors, styles and types, people get confused. Therefore, before you focus on the decoration with flowers, you must also determine if it’s going to be bouquets or single flowers?

  • How to choose wedding flowers for different seasons

The plus point for choosing the current seasonal flower is that your wedding flowers are going to be fresh. Therefore, please follow the list provided underneath for choosing your wedding flowers for a particular season:

  • For winter: Calla Lily, Camellia, Forget-Me-Not, Holly, Ivy, Poinsettia and Tulip.

  • For spring: Anemone, Apple Blossom, Calla Lily, Daffodil, Forsythia, Geranium, Hyacinth, Lilac, Magnolia, Narcissus and Tulip.

  • For summer: Calla Lily, Daisy, Hydrangea, Forget-Me-Not and Zinnia (red, orange, or pink)

  • For fall: Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Marigold and Zinnia.

Lovely Wedding Flowers

Wedding photography looks its best when there remain present colorful wedding accents. And when it is about colors, flowers prove to be the best. Including colorful flowers in the photographs create the backdrop and ambience no other medium can produce. Therefore, before putting up your festive wedding décor, always fix a meeting between your florist, your decorator and your chosen wedding photographer to create the best of outputs.

budget silk wedding flowers

Your budget will stretch much further with the choice of silk flowers, and your wedding can still be all that you want it to be. Todays’ silk flower manufacturers have provided us with an amazing variety of colors and blooms to choose from. The benefits of using silk versus live flowers far out weigh any possible disadvantages.

Utilizing silk flowers for your wedding can not only save you money, but time and hassles as well. Selections can be made months in advance of your wedding day, and colors can be matched beforehand. Florists cannot ensure exact color matches of live blooms as these are subject to availability and other factors. What you see is what you get with silk flowers. There is none of the variance in size and shape that Mother Nature is prone to exhibit. An added bonus is that flower arrangements and displays can be made up weeks ahead of schedule, avoiding any last minute mix-ups and headaches.

world top hawaii state flowers

the hawaii state flower

Well, to be more specific, the yellow hibiscus is the state flower of Hawaii and has been since June 6, 1988. The above photograph is one of a pink hibiscus (rosa sinensis). Tropical hibiscus originated in Asia and the Pacific Islands, and happens to be the national flower of Malaysia.

Tropical hibiscus shrubs are very easy to grow as they prefer the sun and enjoy warmer temperatures. In fact, you can practically see them growing in every other yard on a block.

best desighn origami flower

Lots of wedding preparations going on this month. I've been folding flowers for awhile, and finally got to the point where I could start on some centerpiece arrangements. It was hard to find red paper that works for this (especially in the right shade of red)! After a lot of trial and error, I settled on the three different papers shown above.

The top flower is made from a red-on-red toned gift wrap paper purchased at The Container Store. (They put out their holiday wrap nice and early!) Their gift wrap is generally very sturdy and can hold up to folding and handling. But even this paper wore down quickly around the folded edges, and the result was rough-looking white spots along the edges. I decided to color the outside folded edges with gold to camouflage the wear and tear. It turned out to be a nice effect, I think! I'm using a metallic gold ink pad -- I just run the edges of the paper across the pad before the final folding stage. (It does require a little drying time.) I also decided not to worry about the white side of the paper showing along the fold in the petals. I figure it compliments the red and gold.

The red flower on the left is made from a sturdy scrapbooking paper purchased at Michael's. It has a subtle texture of starburst shapes. The paper is a dull red-orange color, so I thought I wouldn't be able to use it. But my fiance suggested I try coating these particular flowers with a gloss finishing spray -- low and behold, the result is dark red flowers with a subtle shine to them! Perfect! The texture shows up better with the gloss finish, too. This paper is red on both sides, another great quality for origami.

The third, small flower is made from ivory wedding gift wrap paper from The Container Store -- it has a nice subtle decorative pattern. This paper has been the most successful for this origami project because 1) it's quite sturdy and holds up to folding, 2) it holds it shape really well when curled (such as the petal areas), and 3) the light color camouflages any wear along the edges (and there isn't much!).

the top and beautiful valentine flowers

Valentine’s Day is a holiday that always falls on February 14. It is a day on which lovers traditionally express their love for each other; usually including sending Valentine’s cards or candy. It is also very common to present flowers on Valentine’s Day. The origin and history of this holiday is unclear, since there are at least three St. Valentines recognized by the Catholic Church, all of whom were martyred .

One of the most likely candidates is a Saint Valentine who lived in Rome in the third century. Apparently the emperer Claudius concluded that single men made better soldiers than married men (since they didn’t have wives and families to worry about) so Claudius decreed that young single men could not marry. Apparently, St. Valentine objected to this dramatic pronouncement, and continued to marry young lovers in secret, until he was found out and executed.

In any case, the day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished, and it has been carried on ever since, into modern day practice.

The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "Valentines". Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The mid-nineteenth century Valentine’s Day trade was a harbinger of further commercialized holidays in the United States to follow. The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that about one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year second only to Christmas. The association estimates that women purchase about 85 percent of all valentines cards sold.

A stay in our Honeymoon suite is the perfect gift to one another for Valentine’s Day

online beautiful cheap flowers

For more sophisticated (and still very cheap!) flowers you should head for This is one of Moscow’s historical market places, and it is also housed in a huge pavillion with obvious signs of dilapidation. One row is occupied with wholesale flower sellers, and their huge and varied selection attracts smaller florists and those who are just looking for pack of tulips or sunflowers for a sweet price. The market is just the perfect hangout for me, as it is both a flower and food market. Here you’ll find all kinds of meats, colorful dried fruits, marinated vegetables, homemade sausages and last but not least, great characters. I bet you won’t leave with your hands empty!
